Intense mobility-Chinese Defense Minister meets with Pakistani Chief of Air Staff

Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Li Shangfu met with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff of the Pakistani Air Force (PAF), in Beijing on the morning of July 25, 2023.

General Li Shangfu said that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners and iron-clad friends. Chinese President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the relations between China and Pakistan and has provided overall guidance for the growth of bilateral relations. We should work together to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, cooperate closely in various fields and promote the building of an ever-closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.

General Li also noted that the military cooperation between China and Pakistan is delivering high-level performance, with close high-level exchanges and constantly improved cooperation mechanisms. The cooperation between the Chinese and Pakistani air forces has yielded fruitful results. The two sides should make good use of the “Shaheen (Eagle)” joint training platform to actively carry out experience exchanges, further enhance synergy and expand the depth of cooperation.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu thanked China for its long-term assistance to the PAF. He said that Pakistan highly values its traditional friendship with China, and with the profound changes unfolding in the international situation and geopolitical landscape, the two sides should forge a closer and stronger friendship. The air force is a key force in the future battlefield and the PAF is willing to further deepen cooperation and exchanges with China in combat, equipment and other fields, so as to make positive contributions to jointly addressing ever-changing regional security challenges.

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng meets COAS Gena Munir

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, who is in Pakistan on a three-day visit, met with Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir on Monday, the military’s media wing said.

“During the meeting, matters of mutual interest and defence cooperation were discussed,” said the Inter-Services Public Relations in a statement. “Both reiterated the desire to further enhance and strengthen bilateral relations in all fields.”

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng arrived in Pakistan on Sunday to witness the signing of different agreements and celebrate the decade of CPEC.

Earlier on Monday, President Arif Alvi conferred Pakistan’s second-highest civil award, Hilal-i-Pakistan (Crescent of Pakistan), on Lifeng during an investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadar in Islamabad.

The award was given to the Chinese dignitary to honour his role in the promotion of bilateral ties between Pakistan and China.

The ceremony was attended by PM Shehbaz and other civil and military leaders.

China and Pakistan signed six agreements for the promotion of bilateral cooperation.
