French President Emmanuel Macron had a one-and-a-half-hour telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin today, the Elysee reported.
According to Reuters, the French president asked his Russian counterpart to stop the attacks against the civilians, to preserve the political infrastructure and to keep the roads in Ukraine open.
On all three points, Putin “confirmed that he is willing to commit”, the statement said.
Macron asked Putin to stay in touch for the next few days, and he agreed.
In recent hours, Macron has also spoken “several times” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It is noted that Mr. Macron is the only European who talks to Putin.
