Two US B-52 strategic bombers, after flying from Britain to Romania and staying there at an altitude of 8,000 meters to be visible from the Russian side, flew south to Bulgaria.
There, following the same pattern, they turned southwest. They entered the Greek airspace at 16:18 where they were greeted by a pair of Greek F-16s that took off from Anchialos and accompanied them west.
They flew north to Thessaloniki, Olympus, Trikala, over Ioannina and Corfu and from there passed to an Italian FIR where he was escorted by the Italian Air Force.
