A criminal organization dealing in fake 100 euro banknotes was dismantled and 14 people were arrested on Saturday. The spiral of Pakistanis threw money with a total face value of 1 million euros into the market, which passed undetected by ATMs and other devices. It was traded in Greece and other European countries.
The police operation involved forces in Spain, Italy and Greece. It started last November when large numbers of fake banknotes were discovered in Barcelona.
“The banknotes produced by the organization were handmade and of very high quality, as they used special inks, watermarks and various elements designed to bypass detection mechanisms,” announced the spokeswoman for Spain’s National Police, Elisa Rebolo.
With headquarters in Naples, Rome and Barcelona, the gang with people of Pakistani origin trafficked the 100 euros in Italy, France, Greece and Spain. They were arrested at Barcelona Airport and the city’s Bus Station. They were in possession of counterfeit banknotes with a face value of 70,000 euros
