The security authorities of the Taliban government in Herat province in northwestern Afghanistan stated that the group’s forces have killed 5 ISIS members in the province’s district 12.

The Taliban intelligence agency in Herat province said that in an operation of the Taliban forces in the Haji Abbass area of Herat province’s police district 12, 5 members of the ISIS terrorist group have been killed.

The clash between the Taliban forces and the members of ISIS took place in Herat province on Tuesday night, November 15, at around 9:30, the Taliban intelligence newsletter said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban also allegedly killed 5 members of ISIS in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar in a “special operation.”

The Taliban, on the other hand, previously asserted at a meeting with Tomas Niklasson, the special envoy of the European Union for Afghanistan in early October that ISIS has been vanquished and is no longer able to conduct attacks.

According to Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, who spoke with the EU official, ISIS and other terrorist groups in Afghanistan “have now been hit hard, they lost their ability to resist and attack.”

The Taliban government spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, also announced discovering an ISIS cell in Kabul the Afghan capital, and the killing of 5 ISIS members who he referred to as “Kharijites”, earlier this week.

This comes as many countries in the international community are growing concerned about the resurgence of international terrorist groups following the US assassination of Al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in Afghanistan.
