The trilateral cooperation between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel “has proven resilient and contributes significantly to stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated after the conclusion of the 10th Trilateral Summit in Jerusalem on Monday.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted Greece's emerging role as a key energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean during the 10th Trilateral Summit with Cyprus and Israel in Jerusalem. He emphasized resilient cooperation for regional stability, condemned antisemitism, and discussed energy projects, maritime security, and broader Middle East issues including Gaza, Lebanon, and post-Assad Syria.

Mitsotakis strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks targeting Jews in Australia, expressing condolences to the victims’ families and solidarity with the Jewish community. “Antisemitism has no place in modern society, and we must relentlessly combat religious hatred,” he said.

Highlighting profound changes in the Middle East that present both serious threats and opportunities, Mitsotakis emphasized the strategic importance of the trilateral partnership. Governed by international law and principles of good neighborliness, the alliance of three democratic coastal nations fosters regional prosperity, he noted.

Discussions touched on the Gaza situation, with Mitsotakis calling for the release of remaining hostages from Hamas’ October 2023 attack. He welcomed initiatives under the Trump administration as a new opportunity, stressing that all parties must honor agreements. “We must eradicate terrorism in all its forms and enhance regional security,” he added, reaffirming Greece’s readiness to contribute through diplomacy and stability efforts.

Mitsotakis expressed support for Lebanon’s stability and territorial integrity, noting that Greek aid has bolstered its security forces. On Syria, he observed that one year after the fall of the Assad regime, security has been restored, but respect for all religions and ethnicities remains essential. He also underscored the need to protect Orthodox Christians in the Middle East.

Turning to energy and defense, Mitsotakis said the leaders explored deeper cooperation in areas like civil protection. He positioned Greece as a pivotal player in the Eastern Mediterranean, serving as a gateway for LNG imports beneficial to Cyprus and Israel, while highlighting potential for exporting electricity and further collaboration in the sector.

The prime minister also addressed maritime security—a priority for Greece as a global shipping leader—and announced plans for joint coast guard exercises among the three nations.

Additionally, the leaders discussed advancing the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC), urging a shift from conceptual plans to concrete projects to strengthen connectivity with India, Cyprus, and continental Europe. Mitsotakis praised the swift U.S. agreements enabling American LNG transit through Greece’s Vertical Corridor, describing it as strategically vital and of major interest to Washington.

In closing, Mitsotakis said the trilateral framework has delivered tangible results and is poised to yield more amid regional challenges and opportunities. He expressed eagerness to deepen and sustain this cooperation.
